I have been retired for five years now. During this past five years I have done nothing but traveled around the world. I mostly go on cruises because they give me a good opportunity of seeing more than one country per one travel. Though boats have become my sanctuary, I have spent a lot of my time in hotels and apartments because I wasn’t always able to travel by boat – or didn’t feel like it.

Two years ago I decided to visit a country whose landscape, at least to me, looked like from a fairy tale. It was Croatia. I have seen pictures of summer in Croatia and was completely stunned. There were plains full of wheat, mountains with lots of animals and rich fauna, golden beaches surrounded with clear blue sea and towns whose old white buildings perfectly fit into a green scenery. Anyway, I fell in love with Croatia.

There was only one thing I needed before I could have a perfect summer in Croatia – a place to stay. My experience in traveling told me that whichever accommodation I choose, I may be wrong. I did my best to look for some accommodation in Croatia (as you can see, the Internet was a place to start from). While I was searching. I also found some articles talking about apartments in Croatia. These articles were written by a young British couple who generally wrote all kinds of articles about traveling. The articles I’ve read talked about how good apartments in Croatia can be. In one of the articles stood a line which made me even more unsure about my options – it said that though apartments in Croatia can be a very good choice, this may not always be the case. Basically, it was nothing I didn’t know before. In the end I decided to take a risk and to book an apartment.

My first impressions of the apartment were good. I won’t say great because the first thing I saw was a regular building – neither better nor worse from the other I’ve already seen. My hosts were polite enough to wait for me at a bus station to pick me because I didn’t know where to go – this was obviously a first plus. When we arrived in the apartment I could see that my hosts took a really good care of a place: all the walls were newly painted, furniture was well conserved (it wasn’t the newest, but it looked good) and everything was extremely clean – all of this was another plus. The one thing that really surprised me were fruit and vegetables on the dinning table. I, almost instantly, asked how much does it cost, but that replied that it was free because it was a gift, which truly shocked me. Nothing other I found about my apartment is really worth mentioning.

When my holiday ended, I was so happy with the choice I had made. My hosts proved to be so polite and kind and the place started to feel like home to me. So if decide to come to Croatia, you should only note that rooms in Croatia are similar the apartments, except that fact that you share your apartment with some other people.
