As an important part of tourism, rural tourism in Croatia is at high level. It contains old tradition and customs of specific destination. Main accommodation types for this kind of tourism are small family hotels and apartments. But it is not unusual that tourist are located at the big hotels in some top tourist destinations, and that they take tours from its destination to visit some nearby villages where they can experience charm of rural tourism and learn something about old Croatian traditions and customs. Rural tourism is the common name for various forms of tourism that occur outside the cities and areas where mass tourism has developed. It is determined and marked with tourist attractions that are located in rural area and it take a little more than 90% of Croatian land surface. It is present on the islands as well. In addition to tourism in the tourist family farms, in the rural areas we find a hunting, fishing tourism, resort tourism, sports and recreational tourism, health tourism, cultural tourism, culinary tourism, gastronomic tourism, eco tourism, adventure tourism, educational tourism, religious tourism, tourism protected parts of nature such as National Parks and Nature Parks, nostalgic tourism, local tourism etc. Rural tourism, in rural areas, includes both type of tourists, the ones who stay more than one day and the ones who are one day visitors.

Many tourist spots with rural tourism are still in authentic shape. That means that houses are very old, built in a way of that time, and it’s not rare that at some destinations people still live the life just on the same way as they did before many years when civilization was on lower level. Rural tourism is very strong in Slavonia, Istria and Dalmatia. As Istria and Dalmatia are top tourist counties in Croatia, they also offer a lot of rural tourism destinations, which are mostly located a few kilometers behind main modern tourist destination, and that locations could be easy visited as they are mostly pretty close.

Camping is very popular way of spending holidays, and for someone even way of living. Camps in Croatia are also very popular, and could be found all over the country, but the most of them are located at the seaside and on islands.

Croatia is currently one of the hottest destinations for camping in Europe. With its unspoiled nature, beautiful beaches and indented coastline, Croatia stands out as an ideal place for camps and camping.

Croatia is full of beautifully landscaped campsites, with a diverse range of content. It is also well connected by roads with the rest of Europe, so it should not be a problem for campers from all over Europe to come with their mobile homes.

Camp sites are on the high level. In Croatia is every year held competition called “Camp of the year” and that is a big stimulation for all camp managers to do their best to win. So we can say that camps in Croatia are well equipped, and have a lot to offer to their guests.

It’s not rare that camp site has its own shops, bars, restaurants and disco clubs at separated part of the camp, for those who, even when they are under the open sky, want to feel civilization benefits.

Most camps are secured and under protection of discreet guards so safety of guests and their expensive equipment is not a question.

Mostly, camp sites are little outside of the center of destination, so they mostly have their own beach, parking and sport and recreation facilities and grounds just for its guests.

Camps are one of the cheaper ways of accommodation in Croatia, but are not so popular because of that. They are popular because they offer unspoiled nature just near some top destination, with all contents you need, and unforgettable experience.

I’m not the summer type of a person. Nor the kind of man who plans his summer vacation during the whole year, looking where to spend great amount of money I didn’t even earned jet, and than strangling all the people I know with thousands of photos of sunrises and sunsets. O, no, not me. And I usually travel alone. I can’t agree with myself sometimes, not to mention situations with friends when we quarreled over everything: settling, tours, food, booze, everything!

So, I came in Zagreb alone. It is big business and student center of Croatia so it has all kinds of settling: hotels for comfortable ones, apartments for those in company, hostels and rooms for adventurous like myself. I’ve managed to find one in the center, a bit old fashion, but clean and comfortable, even to comfortable since I didn’t plan to spend much time in it.

I came by plane and I was surprised how close the airport to city is. Later, I was pleased to find out that Zagreb, although the capital of the state, isn’t colossal and crowdie. It counts about 800.000 residents. That number increased over 70% in past century, but the city somehow managed to keep humanity in his fibers. Zagreb has lots of class; long streets trimmed with greenness and tall facades with soft lines smiling at passers by. I’ve wondered around with my head filled with plans; wanted to see all of its museums so I found out that there are sixteen of them in the centre of the city. In a way the old city is the museum it self like many towns in Europe; milky windows ticked around shady courtyards, stiff stairs to historical entity with small stoned squares and lighted towers. Friendly bars in great sellers or on the street terraces were I could sit for hours watching the vivacious crowd passing by. I enjoyed the food, vine and bear especially. The women are gorgeous there.

I even fell in love one evening. I met her over the glass of a good bear. She was in company of her two friends, a guy and a girl I don’t remember the names. We spent the evening together, they were curious about me and my way of life and they took me from one bar to another. All people I meet in Zagreb were gently and friendly. They tried to make this evening special for me, but they didn’t suspect that it is already special as I looked in her mysterious big eyes. The rest of my days in Zagreb I spent tracking those magical eyes; suddenly it seemed to me all the people waving from the windows of houses, cars, buses and trams. Every museum, theater, restaurant or a nightclub I remember perfectly, not only because of their good offer or staff, but for the anticipation I was experiencing waiting to spot her once again. I started to think I have lost my mind, so I packed my things and moved on with a great hesitation in my heart. I’ve left many things unseen, but I don’t regret about it.

Watch me, Zagreb, I’m coming back!

Croatia is a small country, but rich with resources...

Croatia is a small country, but rich with resources. Tourism in Croatia is a top industry, and therefore investments in tourism of Croatia are huge. Domestic investors, foreigners and domestic government, all are investors in Croatian tourism.

Croatia is a beautiful country, with only about 4,5 millions inhabitants, but with so many beautiful spots and destinations, crystal clear Adriatic Sea, one of the most indented coastline in the world (that’s why Croatia is called country with a 1000 islands), beautiful nature, many Nature Parks, 8 National Parks, rich history and much more.

Starts of tourism in Croatia are recorded back in the 19th century. Since then, tourism on this area is in a constant progress. During the 20th century, at late 80ties, are recorded record visits. There were more than 11 millions visits in one year to Croatia, and most of tourists were Germans, more than 1,5 million. With the begging of the war on this area, number of tourist visits has drastically fall, which is logical. But since the end of the war in Croatia, from the year 1995, Croatian tourism is again in a constant progress and growth.

Capital city of Croatia is Zagreb, and it is much appreciated destination by tourists, as it has a lot to offer and there is so much to be seen. But some other large towns in Croatia are also very interesting to the tourists. The best example would be Dubrovnik, a real jewel of Croatian tourism. Many cruisers sail into its port during the whole year, as it is highlighted destination on the world tourism map.

Beauty of nature in Croatia is something what should be seen. Many Nature Parks and National Parks are just a proof.

Croatia has a lot of very popular tourist destinations, and they are not just at the seaside, so a tourist could visit the inside of the country and will find many gorgeous castles, and other sights which date from the very old time. Also, Slavonia charms with its fields, and very interesting info is that once there was a sea, Panonian Sea was its name. Istria is the largest peninsula in Croatia, and since recently, foreigners are very interesting in buying property not just at its coastline but even in the inside of Istria, and all that because of its beauty. Dalmatia is also so much beautiful, that whoever saw it had wished to come back.

At the coastline, mostly all places and towns are oriented to the tourism, and it is a main branch. So when tourists come, it is not problem to find accommodation as domestic residents done its best to be ready to accept a large number of tourists and almost every household are engaged in the tourism on way that they offer apartments and villas for rent. Main accommodation capacities in Croatian tourism are in private apartments and villas, but Croatia also has a large number of hotels, and some of them are of first class, highly rated, and many worlds well known hotel chains are present in Croatia.

As tourism in Croatia is very important to the whole country, tourist will find here very kind hosts, who will do its best to meet all their demands and make their stay comfortable and unforgettable.

For most of the people holidays change only a few days of their lives. To me...

For most of the people holidays change only a few days of their lives. To me, a holiday meant a complete change of life. I work as a freelance web developer, which means that I can work from every place which has an Internet connection. This possibility has always been a great thing for me because I could go where ever I wanted and anytime I wanted, it really gave me a lot of freedom. This was also a thing that made it possible form me to totally change my life because of one holiday.

Two years ago I decided to spend my holiday in Croatia, a beautiful country which I had heard so much about. I stayed at my friends’ apartment because they had rented some apartments in Croatia for a few months. So, the first cool thing was that I didn’t have to look for accommodation in Croatia – I really hate searching for a place to stay, so this was a plus in the start.

My friends had told me about the country even before I arrived, so I already knew some basic information about the country. I guess you know this things usually end, someone tells you something about some place and it either turns out worse or so much better than described – I was hopping for the second because the landscape, which I had heard so much about, seemed to be so unrealistic: I was told that a big part of the country is covered with vast forest which give terrific smell to the air, especially when mixed with the smell of sea. Another thing that sounded so unrealistic were descriptions of town: they had told me that seaside towns are mostly made of grain; I mean, who would be so stupid to pull giant blocks of grain to form houses? What is this, Egypt? It soon appeared that I was so wrong. My stupidity made me some embarrassed: how didn’t I think that those weren’t giant block, but rather the small ones?

I think there is really no need for me to describe every single minute of my holiday in Croatia because it consisted of walking and running in the forest or by the sea, playing with my friends or working (yes, I did some work because I found the atmosphere so relaxing that working there was a joy). I would rather talk about how this had changed my life. This country turned out to be so great that I moved there; I really had no reason not to because my work allowed me to do programming from just about anywhere. Now I can enjoy calm and peaceful life in Croatia. If you’re looking for some accommodation in Croatia , I would recommend apartments in Croatia – they might change you life as well.

My experience with previous holidays wasn't really good: bad food, impolite hosts, rude people...

My experience with previous holidays wasn’t really good: bad food, impolite hosts, rude people in the streets and so on. Therefore I didn’t expect much from my next holiday destination (although I keep on disappointing myself every time, I always go abroad, God knows why). I decided to spend my holiday in Croatia because some of my friends recommended it: they told me it was great and that I was going to have a lot of fun. I usually travel alone or with a few of my friends, so my holidays last for about a week (some of them were even shorter), and that’s why I look for a place where I can truly relax.

I searched for an accommodation in Croatia and soon ran into a problem: I couldn’t decide whether to choose a hotel or a private accommodation. Ecentually I decided to choose the second one because you can go to a hotel anywhere you want, but a quality private accommodation can’t be found everywhere: my friends also told me that apartments in Croatia are a lot better choice because people you stay at are very polite and friendly. I should also note that I decided to go to Dalmatia because it was easy to go there by plane and I can imagine what Slavonia looks like because I live in a similar place.

When me and my friends arrived to Split (the town we chose to stay in) I still had a bad feeling about this holiday in Croatia, but it soon appeared that I was wrong: beautiful blue see and Marjan (it’s a popular hill in Split and I see why, it really looks great because it is fully covered with trees) were the first thing we saw (actually, the first thing we saw was a gorgeous local girl, we were surprised how many of them are there).

The first day we spent on walking across the town and sightseeing: there are some ancient buildings, like Diokletian’s palace, which give a unique flavor to the town. We, fortunately, didn’t manage to get lost because a lot of young people speak foreign languages so they were able to help us. The rest of the days we spent relaxing on a beach and playing an extremely fun game which is played with a small ball: the point of the game is to pass the ball to someone else be hitting the ball – it’s difficult to describe it, but it’s a great fun.

In the end I was very happy with the fact that I chose to spend my holiday in Croatia . The thing that really made me glad I chose this country is that accommodation in Croatia proved to be really good. I call only thank to my friends who pointed out that apartments in Croatia are a great choice.

I have been traveling a lot for the past few years. I don't like it, but what can I do about it?

I have been traveling a lot for the past few years. I don’t like it, but what can I do about it? During my trips, I have changed many hotels, rooms, apartments and all the other available types of accommodation. Sometimes it was great, sometimes it was awful, but it all ended as a good experience. Early this year I was appointed to go on a business trip to Croatia, a country I haven’t heard much about. I know some people who have spent their vacation in Croatia, but I have never had a chance to hear something about their trip.

Most of the time I have to look for accommodation myself – the company then covers all the expenses. I started looking for rooms in Croatia , but didn’t find much. It appeared that I’ll have to rent a whole apartment. I opened Google, wrote „apartments in Croatia“ and I soon found myself some cheap ones. then I was ready to spend a whole week working in a foreign country.

Between meetings, I had some time for myself. I decided to spend this free time walking around a town which I was in. I was happy with what I’ve seen. There nice white buildings made of stone which looked so great with flowers and grass around them. I must admit that I simply love the smell you can sense while walking in the streets – smell of clean sea and trees mix so beautifully, which purifies all your senses.

Everything I experienced on my business trip made me to make a foolish decision: I called my boss and told him I would be staying in Croatia for another week. At first he didn’t understand why I wanted to do that, so he asked my if I wanted to spend my vacation in Croatia . I told him that I want it more than anything and he agreed to give me a week off. There was, as there always is, a but. I had to look for apartments in Croatia once more because some tourists have already booked rooms in the one I was in. Of course, all of this was no problem for me and I soon found myself a place to stay.

If you are thinking about spending a vacation in Croatia, think no more. It’s a beautiful country and everyone can find something to enjoy in while on vacation there.

I have been retired for five years now. During this past five years I have done nothing but traveled around the world...

I have been retired for five years now. During this past five years I have done nothing but traveled around the world. I mostly go on cruises because they give me a good opportunity of seeing more than one country per one travel. Though boats have become my sanctuary, I have spent a lot of my time in hotels and apartments because I wasn’t always able to travel by boat – or didn’t feel like it.

Two years ago I decided to visit a country whose landscape, at least to me, looked like from a fairy tale. It was Croatia. I have seen pictures of summer in Croatia and was completely stunned. There were plains full of wheat, mountains with lots of animals and rich fauna, golden beaches surrounded with clear blue sea and towns whose old white buildings perfectly fit into a green scenery. Anyway, I fell in love with Croatia.

There was only one thing I needed before I could have a perfect summer in Croatia – a place to stay. My experience in traveling told me that whichever accommodation I choose, I may be wrong. I did my best to look for some accommodation in Croatia (as you can see, the Internet was a place to start from). While I was searching. I also found some articles talking about apartments in Croatia. These articles were written by a young British couple who generally wrote all kinds of articles about traveling. The articles I’ve read talked about how good apartments in Croatia can be. In one of the articles stood a line which made me even more unsure about my options – it said that though apartments in Croatia can be a very good choice, this may not always be the case. Basically, it was nothing I didn’t know before. In the end I decided to take a risk and to book an apartment.

My first impressions of the apartment were good. I won’t say great because the first thing I saw was a regular building – neither better nor worse from the other I’ve already seen. My hosts were polite enough to wait for me at a bus station to pick me because I didn’t know where to go – this was obviously a first plus. When we arrived in the apartment I could see that my hosts took a really good care of a place: all the walls were newly painted, furniture was well conserved (it wasn’t the newest, but it looked good) and everything was extremely clean – all of this was another plus. The one thing that really surprised me were fruit and vegetables on the dinning table. I, almost instantly, asked how much does it cost, but that replied that it was free because it was a gift, which truly shocked me. Nothing other I found about my apartment is really worth mentioning.

When my holiday ended, I was so happy with the choice I had made. My hosts proved to be so polite and kind and the place started to feel like home to me. So if decide to come to Croatia, you should only note that rooms in Croatia are similar the apartments, except that fact that you share your apartment with some other people.
